The Cherokees were crowded out of their old seat of government near Knoxville, Tn., by advancing white men. At the junction of the Coosawatee and Conasauga Rivers, at what was called Fork Ferry, New Echota (Indian for Town), was established in 1819 as the last capital before removal to the west.

This was a hotel that was built during 1935, within Calhoun, Ga., now the home of the Arts Guild. It is rumored that Margaret Mitchell, author of "Gone With the Wind", visited this hotel on a book signing tour.
